Bayes’ theorem is useful in evaluating the result of a drug test. A certain drug test is 99% accurate, that is, the test will correctly identify a drug user as testing positive 99% of the time, and will correctly identify a non-user as testing negative 99% of the time. This would seem to be a relatively accurate test, but Bayes’ theorem will reveal a potential flaw. Let’s assume a corporation decides to test its employees for marijuana use, and 0.5% of the employees use the drug. We want to know the probability that, given a positive drug test, an employee is actually a drug user.”

Now, take a second to guess at the answer…

Thirty three percent of the time the test is a false positive and the employee is not actually a drug user. Fascinating, huh? Now remember that false positives are very rare events so most employees will not need to worry about taking the test. But if a positive occurs, one third of the time it will be wrong! I find that amazing.
This is a great blog dedicated to the art of crocheting. Here you’ll find lots of great patterns to work with.brukte biler

I’ve been crocheting since the age of 11, but at the age of 30, crocheting is becoming a bigger part of my life and more enjoyable.

I feel lethargic sometimes and become content with doing absolutely nothing, although not too often. I experience wonderful bursts of energy without warning and then I want to do nothing. To add to these strange occurrences, my sleep cycle is off most of the time and I find that if I go to bed early, I wake up faaaaaaar to early to be happy and chipper.
In the words of Wikipedia: “The rarer the condition for which we are testing, the greater percentage of the positive tests will be false positives. This illustrates why it is important to do follow-up tests.”
(using infrared scanners) and tries to shoot them when Peter STOPS THE TASER BULLETS in midair and then FLIES AWAY. He’s really getting a good handle on those powers. Sylar/Zane sneaks away and kills the sound lady, and when Mohinder finds her body the next morning, Sylar convinces him to flee. A new wireless lady (she can tap the internet with her mind) hooks up with nuclear dude and they convince Matt that they need to find HRG and get him to talk. Fast paced with lots of twists, this was the best Heroes episode in a while.

A week ago a friend sent me an IM: “Two weeks without an update, the death knell for the blogosphere.” Well, a week later…
Yes, things have gotten quite busy. We had a week of “self assessments”. At Ivy Medical School, as the tests are not graded or only graded anonymously, that’s an opportunity to gauge your own progress. In addition, I had a midterm in my computer science class. Ironically, given the fact it was graded, I spent a substantial amount of my time on that. Then it turned out to be trivial. Argh!
